Notes from the first two meetings of our Adventurers’ Club:

Facebook “Costume College Year-Round Forum” — Use this tool between Zoom sessions to pose questions, ideas, progress reports, research results, etc. Be sure to begin your posrt with the phrase “Costume College Adventurers’ Club” so that administrators will allow your post.

 

What is an “adventurer? “A person who enjoys or seeks a venture. A person willing to take risks or use dishonest methods for personal gains (‘adventuress’). Archaic: a financial speculator.”

Synonyms (as in “a person who takes risks): charlatan, daredevil, entrepreneur, explorer, gambler, globetrotter, hero/heroine, madcap, mercenary, opportunist, pioneer (filmmaker), pirate, romantic, speculator, swashbuckler, trailblazer, traveler (tourist), voyager, wanderer 

A few specific adventurers (may include crossdressing): Historical Odysseus/Aeneas, early Polynesians exploring Pacific Islands, Lewis & Clark & Sacajawea, American pioneers, gold rush folk of any country, pirates Contemporary aviator & astronaut, naturalist (J.Goodall), scientist in field or lab, archaeologist/paleontologist, mountaineer, dogsledder, nature photographer, bird watcher, collector (insects/plants/rocks), game hunter, ocean explorer Futuristic limited only by one’s imagination (Star Trek, The Hobbit)
